Linking Words Quiz

Linking Words Quiz

We use linking words to link ideas when writing. They enable the writing to flow from one idea to the next in a logical and cohesive way. There are three main types of linking words:

CONJUNCTIONS

We use conjunctions to join two parts of a sentence together. We generally place them in the middle of a sentence.

  • She loves to stay at home and write in English.

SENTENCE CONNECTORS

We use sentence connectors to link ideas from one sentence to the next and to give paragraphs coherence. We place sentence connectors at the beginning of a sentence.

  • This association aims at developing leadership in youth. Besides, it helps them find a job.

SUBORDINATORS

We use subordinators to join clauses together, and we use them at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence.

  • Although she didn’t want to go out with us for dinner, I didn’t try to convince her to do.
